According to a study, the majority of winter travelers do not go skiing
This winter, a tenth of Hungarians are planning a winter trip abroad, and skiers are in the minority compared to those choosing destinations with a warmer climate than their own; the majority of travelers plan to explore a city – this was revealed in a nationwide representative survey commissioned by Groupama Biztosító and OTP Bank.
According to the statement sent to MTI on Monday, a third of winter travelers want to go from winter to summer, that is, they visit a country where it is warmer than at home at this time of year. Skiing is only the third most popular pastime, and the reversal of the trend may be influenced by the fact that, due to the mild weather, much less snow is falling in the areas of European ski slopes this winter than before. According to the research, only every fifth respondent goes abroad to relax on snowy or snow-covered slopes.
Most people, almost half of the respondents, travel by car, a third by plane, 25 out of 100 choose to travel by bus and 17 by train. On the list of destination countries, Austria is in first place with 32 percent, Slovakia is second, and Poland and Germany are third with the same result. In regions with a warmer climate, Turkey, Egypt, Thailand and the Canary Islands are the most attractive for winter travelers.
