ProVeg says farmers should switch to producing alternative proteins
ProVeg has conducted detailed interviews with 20 international agricultural organisations, which represent 300,000 farmers, mainly in Europe and the USA. The report they prepared concludes that it is possible to convince farmers to switch to growing protein plants, but this can’t be done instantly and would require serious funding.
Stephanie Jaczniakowska-McGirr, ProVeg’s international head of food industry and retail told: one of the biggest challenges farmers have to face during such a transition is acquiring the resources and knowledge needed for protein plant farming. Farmers are the most worried about financing not only the transition process – this involves yield issues and buying new machinery – but also signing long-term supplier partnerships with food manufacturers.
