The eighth PET Cup collected more than eight tons of waste on the section of the Tisza between Záhony and Tokaj
The fleet of eleven teams from the 8th Tisza PET Cup reached Rakamaz. As a result of the coordinated work of the largely veteran field of returning pet-pirates, 8.2 tons of waste was removed from the Tisza floodplain. In view of the viral situation, the event was held with the introduction of emergency precautions. Due to the tightening, the field was half that of last year, yet nearly as much waste was collected as last year. Representatives of the organizing Természetfilm.hu Association emphasized that the end of the tunnel can be seen, because due to the Upper Tisza-Rural waste disposal chain, these floodplain forests will no longer be polluted again.
In the upper section of the Tisza, the Upper Tisza-Rural Water Directorate – thanks to new infrastructure investments – regularly collects large amounts of waste from floods. In recent years, the PET Cup has cleaned 70-80 stream-kilometer sections during a summer race. The section between Záhony and Tokaj has been visited for a long time, or the entire section has not been affected, while the floodplain pollution was very significant.
