As the summer holidays come to an end, many company managers are faced with the phenomenon that occurs every year, when employees start to lay off after a break. According to the expert, this is an accurate indicator of the quality of company management and the shortcomings of the corporate structure. At the same time, mass exodus can be prevented by conscious company building and developing leadership skills.

Almost every autumn, the scenario is repeated in companies that after the summer holidays, some employees do not start working on their tasks with the usual momentum, but instead consider quitting, and in many cases even leave their company. A 2021 international study conducted by monster.com states that 70% of employees returning from vacation start to actively look for new job opportunities. In the period from late August to early September, the exit rate can reach up to 19%.

“Although precise Hungarian statistics are not available, the trend can also be clearly observed here,” says Gyula Piroska, founder of Seminar Consulting. “We can also see that employees who are considering quitting take all their remaining vacation or even go on sick leave before officially announcing their intention to leave,” the expert pointed out.

According to Gyula Piroska, there are several psychological factors behind the increased mobility in September. The start of school, the arrival of autumn, symbolizes the possibility of starting with a clean slate for many people. During the holidays, stepping out of the daily grind, people have the time and opportunity to look at their own situation and their work from a distance and ask themselves: “Do I really want to do this next year?” He added that people’s desire for a fresh start and development is also supported by the fact that there is a surge in applications for training and education during this period.
