The labor market is changing rapidly
The job market is changing rapidly, and so are the expectations of companies. Although professional knowledge has not disappeared from the list, more and more companies are now saying that it is not the most important thing. It is much more important how we communicate, how adaptable we are, or how empathetic we are. International research also shows that the key to success increasingly lies in human skills.
According to a recent study, so-called “human” skills are increasingly valued in the labor market. According to the TestGorilla report, the majority of employers see soft skills as more important today than they were a few years ago. Moreover, most companies look not only at professional knowledge, but also at the personality of candidates and how well they fit into the corporate culture. It is no coincidence. Many have experienced that even if someone is an excellent professional, if they lack these, they will ultimately not succeed in the position.
A degree is still important, but today it is not enough on its own to succeed. Universities mainly provide professional knowledge, while the skills that are truly important in the workplace – such as communication, cooperation or adaptation – are developed more in practice. It is no coincidence that companies are increasingly looking for candidates who combine professional knowledge and human skills.
Technological developments only reinforce this trend. As automation and artificial intelligence take over more and more routine tasks, the value of skills that cannot be replaced by machines increases. While the demand for AI-related knowledge has grown rapidly in recent years, experts say it will soon become more nuanced.
Research also shows that employees who communicate well, make quick decisions and solve problems effectively – not just those who are professionally strong – will get ahead.
Meanwhile, employees’ expectations are also changing. According to a recent survey, many people are more likely to turn down a job if there is no opportunity for development. Today, it is not only salary that matters, but also learning, an inspiring environment and a workplace where you can develop.
“The labor market is clearly moving in the direction where human skills are valued. Professional knowledge is still basic, but empathy, adaptability and good communication are now essential for success, and critical thinking and change management will also be particularly important skills, as artificial intelligence gains ground and becomes increasingly powerful. ensuring the necessary control and safe operation. That is why we not only support professional development, but also the conscious development of soft skills. For example, the Knowledge Bits program provides short e-learning materials that are useful in everyday work, helping to manage stress, develop emotional intelligence and resilience, mental stamina, and strengthen leadership skills. We believe that an inspiring, modern working environment – where digitalization and artificial intelligence are a natural part of everyday development – creates an opportunity for employees to continuously develop not only professionally, but also personally, thereby strengthening the organizational culture,” said Leila Medvey, Head of HR at K&H.
According to experts, the skills that will really matter in the future are those that help you adapt quickly and work together. These include adaptability, willingness to learn, problem-solving, emotional intelligence or good communication – and it doesn’t hurt to be proactive either.
