Mondelez has inaugurated its largest solar park in Central and Eastern Europe in Székesfehérvár
Mondelez International officially handed over its new solar park on the territory of its Székesfehérvár factory on Thursday: the $2.3 million (approximately 780 million forints) investment created the largest solar park of the company in Central and Eastern Europe.
Dominik Boguslawski, the factory director in Székesfehérvár, said that the 25,000 square meter solar park is also the company’s largest green project in Hungary. He noted that one of the most important pillars of their strategy is sustainability, and this pillar has been strengthened with the current investment.
He said that as the world’s leading snacking manufacturer, they have more than 100 factories worldwide and are proud that in Székesfehérvár, major global brands such as Milka, Cadbury or Oreo, as well as local brands such as Pilóta and Győri Édes, will be produced with the help of green energy in the future.
Áron Mayer, Head of Business Development and Investments, said that as part of the project, 4,096 solar panels were installed on the vacant land next to the factory, which covers 25 percent of the factory’s annual electricity needs. He mentioned that they have also made progress in the area of conscious energy use: the energy demand of the machines has been reduced by modernizing the equipment, replacing the light bulbs with LEDs, and secondary energy use has been prioritized with the help of heat recovery systems.
According to the press release, the system will produce 3,000 MWh of renewable energy per year, which will reduce the factory’s carbon dioxide emissions by 600 tons per year.
Mondeléz Hungária Kft. has been operating in Hungary for nearly 30 years through its predecessors, the Hungarian commercial representative of Mondeléz International Inc. The Győri Keksz Kft. plant in Székesfehérvár employs 600 people, and the chocolates and biscuits made here are shipped to more than 30 countries.
According to public company data, as a member of the Mondelez group, Győri Keksz Kft. recorded a profit of 670 million forints with net sales of 12.8 billion forints in the 2024 business year. The year before last, it realized net sales of 14.2 billion forints and after-tax profit of 549 million forints.
