Mars achieves another 1.9% reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions

Mars Incorporated has published its 2024 Sustainability in a Generation report, which reveals that the company has ta­ken further steps to lower its carbon footprint.

By the end of 2024 Mars achieved another 1.9% absolute greenhouse gas emissions reduction from its 2015 baseline, while realising a more than 69% business growth and approaching USD 55 billion in annual revenue.

Poul Weihrauch, the CEO of Mars:

“I am delighted that we continue to be able to decouple our growth from carbon emissions, while also supporting innovation. These are key areas for making significant progress in curbing future environmental risks”.

In 2024 Mars focused on partnerships that support innovative agricultural practices and deforestation-free supply chains. Notable recent projects include: Livelihoods Fund for Family Farmers (L3F) in North Sumatra and the RESTORE project for sustainable cocoa farming.

 Chief sustainability officer Alastair Child:

“We are committed to real, present progress, not just setting distant goals. Long-term, systemic change is needed in supply chains and this requires collaboration between governments, industry and farmers”.

Recognising the role of science and innovation, Mars has also announced the foundation of the Mars Sustainability Investment Fund (MSIF) with up to USD 250 million in capital.

The annual sustainability report also reveals that Mars contributed to 3.5 billion healthy meals in 2024. (x)
