More than half of Hungarians have a sweet tooth, this is what sells best in stores
Six out of ten prefer the sweet taste, the second most popular taste is salty, which is the favorite of every fourth Hungarian. This and many other interesting facts came to light from the representative research, the results of which were recently presented at a professional round table discussion in Budapest.

Many people think of it as unnecessary calories
The aim of the research – during which 1,000 people were interviewed online – was to explore opinions about the sweet taste and the factors that influence our decisions about sweets and sweeteners. It is not at all surprising that most people like the sweet taste, since it is an innate quality: according to experts, we associate it with safe, energy-giving foods, since our first food, mother’s milk, is also sweet. According to research, however, as we age, we increasingly turn to other tastes, and only slightly more than half of people over fifty years of age have a sweet tooth. Regardless of age, we like to sip our coffee and tea sweetly, as more than three quarters of respondents drink it this way. For this, most people (54.3 percent) use sugar, almost a third of us (30.4 percent) flavor it with sweeteners, and 13 percent choose honey.
