Four fifths of Hungarian small businesses consider sustainable corporate operations to be important
Four fifths of domestic micro and small businesses consider sustainable corporate operations to be important; their main motivation is internal conviction, and not social expectation or some perceived advantage – reveals a recent survey examining the sustainability aspects and operation of the segment. According to the research carried out by Kantar Hoffmann on behalf of Mastercard, the majority of domestic companies see digital payment solutions as a solution with a significant positive environmental impact and consciously use them.
Buying energy-saving light bulbs, saving electricity (for example, turning off the lights when you don’t need them), e-invoicing, providing digital payment options, sorting waste – these are the most widely used solutions for sustainable operation among Hungarian micro and small businesses according to a nationally representative survey that has just been completed. The research also highlighted that there are practices to which the companies concerned attribute a significant sustainability effect, but many of them do not use them. These include investments aimed at environmental protection, active environmental protection activities (such as tree planting) and subsidies for green citizens – but also digital solutions such as online presence or various forms of online discussions.
Overall, more than four-fifths (81%) of those surveyed in the study called sustainable corporate operations important. Regarding the reasons, internal motivation was mentioned most often (80%), followed by the intention to reduce real environmental risks (32%). This was followed by mandatory regulations (16%), the expectations of customers and clients (16%), and improving the company’s image (14%). Businesses communicate about their sustainability efforts mainly on social media, on their own website, in the sales area of the business premises, and on product packaging.
