Magazine: Discount supermarkets are flourishing even in the hardest markets
By opening new stores and increasing their share in people’s FMCG spending, discount supermarket chains are expanding all over Europe. Multinational discounters can compete with leading national retail chains thanks to international profit, the lower prices that they are offered when sourcing products (because of the large volumes ordered), and smaller operating costs. Even in the smallest markets with wealthy consumers, discounters are patiently shaping their product selections to suit the needs of shoppers.
