Brussels wants uniform labeling on stress free slaughtering
The EU is exploring the possibility to indicate the information on product labels that the animals were slaughtered without narcotizing in order to provide a wider range of information to the consumers.
The EU animal welfare law requires the stress free narcotizing of animals before slaughter. The exception is Kosher and Halal religious slaughter. It is known that the slaughter of the livestock without prior stress free narcotizing was banned in Norway, Iceland, Sweden and Switzerland and the judicial review on the ban is currently underway in New Zealand, Finland, Denmark and Austria.
