The majority of student workers are employed in trade, catering and agriculture
This summer season, based on estimates, 100,000 students nationwide can take up jobs in a number of fields, from commerce to catering to industry and agriculture – the Meló-Students school association informed MTI on Tuesday.
They pointed out that the average hourly wage of student workers at the school cooperative is around HUF 1,700, but the salary they receive can exceed the amounts calculated on the basis of advertisements by up to 5-10 percent.
Although the seasonality of student work is decreasing year by year, the number of employed young people still increases by 40-45 percent on average during the summer period, they indicated.
Zoltán Kott, the president and CEO of Meló-Diák, noted in the announcement that the demand for student work this year is also strengthened by the high inflation, and there are more and more people who are forced to take up work in order to cover their basic needs.
The supply keeps pace with the increased demand: although there are fewer student job opportunities in trade compared to previous years, many students are expected in the hospitality industry, on the beaches, at festivals, and – mainly to replace vacations – in factories, he noted. Everyone who is looking for a job can find a job, on the website of Meló-Diák you can currently choose from around six hundred options, he added.
