An exhibition on the winemaking traditions of the Carpathian basin opens in Ópusztaszer
An exhibition on the wine regions and winemaking traditions of the Carpathian basin will open on Wednesday in the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park – Csengele Kodácz, the institution’s marketing manager, informed MTI.
The exhibition, whose title was chosen from Béla Hamvas’ motto – “In the end there are two, God and wine”, promotes the unique and world-class winemaking traditions and products of the Carpathian Basin. The presentation of the winemaking traditions focuses on a narrow period: it starts in 1875 – when the cause of the phylloxera disease, the grape root louse, was first detected in the Pančova area – and lasts until 1920, when the Trianon Peace Treaty was signed.
The viticultural and oenological conditions of the period, Hungary’s historic wine regions, wine varieties, traditional viticulture and wine-making tools are presented in easy-to-understand, visual, picture and text tableaus. The texts on the 23 large panels provide an accurate, short and concise summary of the history of Hungarian winemaking.
