SPAR South Africa is targeting both affluent and lower-income shoppers
South African grocery retailers are modifying their strategies to appeal to both affluent and low-income shoppers. While competitors, including the country’s leading grocery retailer Shoprite and Pick’n’Pay have brands that serve different income groups, South Africa’s second largest retailer SPAR is lagging behind in this respect. SPAR now plans to strengthen its private label offering and create new, premium and discount store formats.
