HelloPay’s tipping practice is fine according to GVH
The Economic Competition Authority (GVH) has completed the investigation against the operator of HelloPay payment terminals. The original investigation was launched in November 2022 because HelloPay was suspected of engaging in unfair practices that pressured consumers into choosing tip amounts.
The GVH has previously punished HelloPay twice in similar cases and forced changes to the company’s tip selection practice. However, during the latest investigation, the GVH did not find sufficient evidence of the violation, as HelloPay changed its practice and now consumers can freely choose the amount of the tip.
This change gives customers more freedom in choosing the tip amount, and GVH believes that no further investigation is needed into the matter.
