The Hungarian competitors approached the GVH about Temu
At the beginning of February, the online marketplace Temu overtook Alza in terms of customer numbers in Hungary, and only eMAG was able to beat the Chinese competitor. However, due to dissatisfaction with its strong market presence and cheap products, Hungarian traders are now turning to the Economic Competition Authority (GVH).
The e-commerce association Ecommerce Hungary has announced that it will prepare a petition to the competition office for the GVH, in which Temu’s alleged violations will be detailed. The association emphasizes that Temu, under the umbrella of PDD Holdings, commits violations for which a Hungarian company would have been held responsible for a long time. At the same time, the association has not singled out specific examples yet.
According to the vice-president of the association, Zoltán Ormós, action must be taken in relation to the complaints related to the operation of Temu, and the help of the GVH is requested in ensuring fair market conditions. Due to the striking growth of Temu, several players in the Hungarian market were forced to examine the conditions of online competition.
