The new land regulations help the generational change
The change of generations and the strengthening of local economies will be helped by the new land regulations, which will make it easier for those starting to farm to acquire the ownership of the first 10 hectares of land – Minister of Agriculture István Nagy informed on his social media page.
The head of the ministry emphasized that the government and the Ministry of Agriculture are encouraging the generational change in agriculture. The young people know exactly that there is enormous potential in agriculture, and we are trying to help them exploit these opportunities, he added. The current amendment to the law also fits into the series of provisions that promote rejuvenation, which is crucial from the point of view of Hungarian agriculture. In addition, the priority common goal of the government and the department is to strengthen local agriculture. From July 1, the right of pre-emption cannot be exercised against those farmers who acquire the first ten hectares of land, who live within twenty kilometers of the location of the land or have an agricultural farm center. A career as a farmer can be more attractive to young people if they see that they can get their first 10 hectares of land more easily, moreover, in the immediate vicinity of their place of residence, emphasized István Nagy. In practice, the new provision means that the sales contract that meets the conditions does not have to be published, which means that the approval procedure could have been completed sooner – concluded the minister. This takes a significant administrative burden off the farmers’ shoulders and can significantly speed up the process, he pointed out.
The head of the ministry also touched on the fact that the regulation also ensures the avoidance of abuses
Because the first 10 hectares do not represent the land ownership that actually existed at the time of the sale, but rather all the land acquired by the buyer under any legal title, including those that were later removed from his ownership. In this way, it is possible to avoid that anyone can abuse the preferential option provided by law by passing on the acquired land, he stated.
