The producer price of young bulls and slaughter heifers increased
According to data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), US beef production decreased by 5 percent and veal production decreased by 11 percent in January-October 2023 compared to January-October 2022. The slaughter of cattle decreased by 4 percent, the live weight of slaughter animals decreased by 1 percent.
In the United States, the bull price was $6.53 (USD)/kilogram split cold weight in September 2023, up 23.6 percent from a year earlier. In the European Union, the slaughterhouse entrance price for the young bull “R3” commercial class was 4.88 euros/kilogram cold carcass weight in October 2023, a decrease of 3 percent compared to a year earlier. The price of the cow “O3” decreased by 8 percent, the price of the heifer “R3” did not change significantly during the examined period. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of young bulls was HUF 761/kilogram of split hot weight in October 2023, a 7.5 percent increase compared to the average price of the same month in 2022. The price of the slaughter heifer increased by 1 percent, while the price of the slaughter cow decreased by 19 percent during the period under review. According to KSH data, the consumer price of beef steak was 15 percent higher (HUF 4,670/kilogram) in October 2023 than a year earlier.
