SPAR Magyarország
“Our company’s sustainability activities are defined by five main pillars: protecting the environment, food safety, promoting healthy lifestyles, protecting employees and social responsibility. We work to minimise the environmental impact of our store and logistics operations and food production processes.
Our Sustainability Report transparently presents SPAR’s achievements in 2023. Last year the company’s total energy consumption decreased by more than 5.5% and waste generation was down more than 1,600 tonnes (minus 5% compared to 2022). Four SPAR stores are now equipped with solar panels. Thanks to a partnership with Munch, shoppers can buy food parcels at discount prices to reduce food waste. SPAR Magyarország joined the ‘Plastic Free July’ initiative this year, raising awareness among our customers and more than 14,000 employees about the importance of reducing plastic waste. We have introduced reusable transport containers in the fruit and vegetable departments of our stores, so we need fewer single-use cardboard, plastic and wooden crates. Sustainability is a pillar of SPAR’s philosophy, and we are proud to be recognised for this by being in the first 15 on in the ESG Top 40 list of economic and political weekly HVG”. (x)
