DM continues to go green with the help of its domestic solar park

From March 2025, dm will obtain 30 percent of its electricity needs from the most efficient and modern domestic solar park, the Sihalmi power plant. With this cooperation, dm is taking another important step towards achieving its sustainability goals, within the framework of which the company is expected to generate 500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. With this cooperation, dm in Hungary stands out among its peers in the sector at the regional level as well.

Climate protection and adaptation to climate change are the greatest challenges of our time. dm is committed to this issue and is pursuing a consistent decarbonization strategy in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in both its upstream and downstream value chains, as well as in its own business activities.

“Increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy is a priority task for dm, which is why we are investing in the construction of resource-saving building technology, the expansion of our solar panel systems (PV), and where possible, we are also switching to energy procurement based on renewable energy sources. An important step in this is the cooperation with Green Cloud at the domestic level, with whom we can achieve our sustainability goals through an innovative renewable energy market solution that is unique in Hungary,”

said Roland Kanyó, dm’s marketing and PR manager.

dm purchases physical green energy from a domestic solar power plant

As part of the cooperation, Green Cloud will provide domestic physical green electricity for dm’s energy supply under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) contract based on the Sihalm solar power plant, thus covering 30 percent of the company’s annual direct purchase electricity needs with clean energy.

“We are very pleased that a well-known brand with nationwide coverage like dm has joined our customers. This cooperation is a clear message to customers and the corporate sector: the use of green energy is not sector-specific, but can be chosen by a retail player with a nationwide store network in addition to large energy-intensive facilities. We can guarantee green energy at a competitive price, in the long term and with complete security of supply. With this construction, dm has reduced its exposure to energy costs, so in addition to going green, this construction can also contribute to dm’s business success. It is important to emphasize that dm purchases physical green energy directly from domestic solar power plants, not carbon market instruments that replace or replace it, the ESG impact of which is questionable”

– emphasized László Pokol, CEO of Green Cloud.
