The export of chicken meat increased, that of turkey fell
According to the AKI slaughter statistics, 500,000 tons (live weight) of poultry were slaughtered in Hungary in the first nine months of 2023, 7 percent more than in the same period of 2022. Of this, slaughter chickens accounted for 372,000 tons (+9 percent), and slaughter turkeys for 52,000 tons (-18 percent).
According to KSH data, the export of poultry meat in Hungary increased by 3 percent to 137,000 tons in the first eight months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. The export of chicken meat increased by 18 percent to 98 thousand tons, while that of turkey meat decreased by 41 percent to 13 thousand tons. Poultry meat imports increased by 10 percent to almost 60,000 tons between January and August 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. Within this, the delivery of chicken meat increased by 11 percent to 45,000 tons, and that of turkey meat by 12 percent to 3,000 tons.
The price of chicken has increased significantly
According to AKI PÁIR data, the live weight producer price of slaughter chickens in Hungary rose by 18.6 percent to HUF 491.7/kg, and that of slaughter turkeys by 24.6 percent to HUF 676.1/kg in the first forty-four weeks of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. The processing sales price of chicken breast fillets rose by 5.6 percent to HUF 1,938/kilogram, chicken thighs by 8.9 percent to HUF 905/kilogram, the price of chicken breast (total) by 5.6 percent to HUF 1,909/kilogram, while bone-in chicken breast rose by 3.1 percent to HUF 1,288 decreased to HUF/kilogram in the first forty-four weeks of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
