Wheat is one of the wonders of our created world
Wheat is more than an arable crop: it has been carrying the message of the future and survival for thousands of years, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy declared on Friday in Csorná, at the wheat collection day and bread festival of the Magyarok Kenyere Program in Győr-Moson-Sopron counties.
In his speech, the head of the ministry explained that we have been celebrating the harvest with gratitude for centuries and the hardworking hands of the farmers who sowed, harvested, threshed, ground, kneaded and baked so that there would always be bread on the table. Even today, it is our moral duty to give thanks with respect and appreciation for the harvest and the farmers’ work, sometimes superhuman struggle, with which they raised the bread grain. The farmers’ commitment and sense of responsibility led them to the fields even in the most scorching heat this year, and their work guarantees that the country’s bread is guaranteed this year as well, he added. István Nagy called the performance of the Győr-Moson-Sopron county farmers worthy of recognition, who can boast of good and even outstanding yield averages for wheat, barley and rye. About 254,000 tons of winter wheat were produced, with an average yield of 5.7 tons/hectare. The harvested amount of autumn barley is 90 thousand tons, with an average yield of 5.4 tons/hectare. Almost 15,000 tons of rye went into the granaries, the average yield here is 5.1 tons/hectare, which far exceeds the national level, he emphasized. In addition to the exemplary diligence of the farmers, the minister also drew attention to their altruism. The producers of the region, as they have always done for years, are helping the Magyarok Kenyere charity program with a significant donation this year as well.
