Both Burger King and KFC have violated the Trade Act
Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) also violated the trade law, because they did not offer alternatives to consumers in the individual drink categories, the Economic Competition Authority (GVH) told MTI on Wednesday.
At the same time, it was highlighted that since they violated a new legal obligation that was first assessed and the violations were corrected within a short period of time, the fast food chains were not fined for the time being.
According to the announcement, at the end of last year, the office initiated proceedings against the Hungarian operators of two Hungarian fast food franchise chains, KFC and Burger King.
The investigation focused on whether the two restaurant chains comply with the new trade regulations that came into force in the summer of 2021, according to which beverage manufacturers with significant market power from the types of beverages specified in the law (beer, soft drinks and fruit drinks, fruit juice and fruit nectar, as well as mineral water and still water) in addition to its products, every catering establishment must provide an alternative choice.
