British McDonald’s raised the price of its cheeseburger for the first time in 14 years
While in our country the iconic product of the fast food chain has relatively followed the rate of inflation, the price of the cheeseburger has not changed in the British for 14 years.
Due to rising food prices, British McDonald’s was forced to raise the prices of their products, including cheeseburgers. In the United Kingdom, inflation reached 9.4 percent in June. McDonald’s has announced that its British restaurants will increase the price of their products by between 10 and 20 pence, so that a burger will cost 1.19 pounds instead of 99 pence. As they wrote, if the price of a cheeseburger had risen in line with inflation, it would be even more expensive now.
Some companies have also had to increase wages in order to retain staff, but wage increases are not keeping pace with the increase in the cost of living. Several companies in the UK have recently announced price increases, including Amazon, Prime, Nestlé and Univer, the BBC reported.
