The processing selling price of wines has increased

According to AKI PÁIR data, the sales price of domestically produced and domestically sold wines without a geographical indication, as well as wines with a protected geographical indication, rose by 19 percent to HUF 30.3 thousand per hectoliter between January and March 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Among wines with a protected geographical indication, the processing sales price of white wines increased by 6 percent to HUF 26.4 thousand/hectoliter, and that of red and rosé wines by 31 percent to HUF 35.8 thousand/hectoliter.Among the domestically produced and domestically sold wines with a protected designation of origin, the average domestic sales price of Tokaj white wines decreased by 3 percent to HUF 138.3 thousand/hectoliter between January and March 2024 compared to the first three months of 2023. Among red and rosé wines with a protected designation of origin, the average domestic sales price of Eger wines increased by about 9 percent to HUF 62.8 thousand/hectoliter during the period under review.

According to KSH data, Hungary’s wine foreign trade balance (excluding sparkling wine and champagne) was negative in terms of quantity and positive in terms of value in January 2024, increased by almost 3 percent in terms of volume and decreased by 18 percent in terms of value compared to January 2023. Wine exports increased by nearly 8 percent in volume to 81.2 thousand hectoliters, and decreased in value by 5 percent to HUF 2.8 billion. Hungarian white wines were still the most sought after on the international market, accounting for 81 percent of exports in the observed period.
