Statistical assessment of the situation in the hospitality industry – 2016
The weight of the catering economy
Tourism is one of the biggest sectors of the national economy. Its share of GDP is 9.4 percent
directly and indirectly and employs nearly 500 thousand people (12.1 percent of the employed). According to the WTTC research, which has a different research methodology, tourism's total contribution to GDP is 10.3 percent, its share in employment was 9.8 percent in 2014. The number of employees in the tourism industries (including hospitality as well) is about 360 thousand people (9.2 percent of the employed).
