Average earnings to increase by 13 percent in 2024
The government is constantly working to ensure that families can manage with more and more money – emphasized Sándor Czomba, State Secretary for Employment Policy at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), in his commentary on the latest earnings data, recalling that, based on data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), the gross average earnings increased by 13.2 percent in 2024 compared to 2023, to approximately 647 thousand forints.
In his statement, the State Secretary stated that the dynamic growth of real wages has been going on for sixteen months, as a result of which the confidence of families is gradually strengthening, consumption is expanding, and families are becoming more and more courageous and spending more, even on travel and recreation.
According to KSH data, the dynamic growth of wages continued in December 2024. The gross average salary increased by 11 percent, or more than 72 thousand forints, to nearly 728 thousand forints compared to the same period of the previous year, while the real wage growth rate in December was 6.1 percent on an annual basis

Compared to the previous year, the gross average salary increased by 13.2 percent in 2024, to approximately 647 thousand forints, while real wages have been growing continuously for 16 months – the state secretary announced.
The government’s goal is for real wages to continue to rise, and what inflation has taken away, it will return to families, thereby helping Hungarian households. The government places great emphasis on strengthening the poor and the middle class, and the outstanding real wage increase observed in 2024 was also the largest for these groups, the State Secretary emphasized.
