The Green Bud Award, established by the Arrabona EGTC, is seeking applications from municipalities presenting their sustainability initiatives, recognizing environmental and climate adaptation projects in the Hungarian-Slovak border region.
The deadline for submitting applications is 2026. April 30.
The aim of the award is to showcase and encourage local initiatives that help the sustainable operation of settlements, the protection of natural resources and adaptation to climate change.
The application is open to settlements with between 1,000 and 10,000 inhabitants or urban districts with a maximum of 10,000 inhabitants that are part of the Arrabona EGTC cooperation.
The initiative is looking for projects that, for example,
- help mitigate or adapt to the effects of climate change
- develop water management and green infrastructure
- serve biodiversity and the protection of green areas
- improve air quality or reduce waste production.
“The Green Bud Award aims to highlight those local initiatives that set an example in the field of sustainable development and climate protection. Local communities often find very creative and effective solutions to environmental challenges,” said Zoltán Tamás Németh, head of the Arrabona EGTC and also an ambassador for the European Climate Pact.
In his work, he pays special attention to strengthening community climate protection initiatives. The objectives of the Green Bud Award are in line with the European Climate Pact’s efforts in several respects, which support the involvement of local communities, the presentation of sustainable settlement solutions and the dissemination of good practices that help adapt to climate change.
The total budget of the award is 4 million forints, which Arrabona EGTC provides from its own resources.
Arrabona EGTC is an organization dealing with Hungarian-Slovak cross-border cooperation in regional development, which works in partnership with municipalities and institutions to implement projects supporting the sustainable development of the region.
Details of the application and application conditions are available on the Arrabona EGTC website: https://arrabona.eu/zold-rugy-dij/
Application deadline: April 30, 2026.
