ÉVOSZ has developed a green minimum proposal package
The Sustainability Section of ÉVOSZ has developed a package of proposals called “Green Minimum”, the aim of which is to make sustainability no longer an optional option, but a basic requirement in public construction projects – the Hungarian Construction Contractors’ Association (ÉVOSZ) informed MTI in a statement on Wednesday.
The aim of the “Green Minimum” proposal is to make environmental aspects a basic requirement in construction projects – especially in projects implemented with public funds that reach or exceed the EU public procurement threshold. The aim of the proposal is to ensure that high-value public construction projects can be implemented only if they can be proven to meet the requirements of international green building certification systems. These certificates are objective and measurable guarantees that the given building was truly built in a sustainable manner.
As they added, the proposal package also sets a legal framework and creates good practice, which can shape the entire construction culture in the long term. The goal is to ensure that environmentally conscious thinking is not only inherent in public projects, but also becomes a natural requirement in private investments.
According to the trade association, sustainability principles – such as energy saving, recycling, reducing harmful emissions or a more livable indoor environment – ensure more cost-effective operation, higher property value and a healthier living environment in the long term. These aspects are already increasingly becoming an expectation on the international market, and they are worth introducing into the domestic construction industry.
The ultimate goal is for sustainability to be a fundamental principle for the client and all actors in the construction industry, not a specialty. To achieve this, environmental considerations must permeate everything from planning to construction to operation. This is particularly important in the field of private investments – such as the construction or renovation of residential properties – where informed and responsible customer decisions play a key role instead of regulation.
