XV. St. Stephen’s Day Bread Competition: the Hungarian Bakers’ Association is accepting entries in three categories
The Hungarian Bakers’ Association has once again announced its professional bread competition for 2026. The initiative aims to broaden the bakery sector’s offer not only with traditional products, but also with new bread types that better match consumer needs—potentially including recipes based on healthier ingredients.
The competition features three categories: St. Stephen’s Day Bread of the Year 2026, Innovative Bread, and Laminated “Walking” Pastry. Category winners will also receive cash prizes: HUF 500,000 for the winner of Category I, HUF 300,000 for Category II, and HUF 200,000 for Category III.
The entry deadline is 16 February 2026, and the entry fee is HUF 5,000 + VAT per product. The competition has two rounds: the first, preliminary judging will take place at the HUNGEXPO SIRHA Budapest exhibition between 3–5 March 2026, while the second round will be open to the press on 7 May 2026. Detailed product requirements, evaluation criteria and the entry process are available on the Hungarian Bakers’ Association’s website.
