XII. Laurel Retail Conference – the future is visible in action

By: Trademagazin Date: 2025. 05. 16. 14:20

On May 28, key players of the retail sector will gather once again at the Larus Event Center in Budapest. Laurel will host its professional conference for the twelfth time, focusing on the technological, regulatory, and business trends shaping the market – not just in theory, but through live demonstrations as well.

Hybrid store: already operating and available in Hungary

One of the most exciting highlights of the event will be the presentation of the 247 Shop system developed by Laurel. This innovative solution is already in operation at the company’s own premises and will soon be implemented in a domestic grocery store. The shop operates traditionally with staff during the day, and switches to a fully self-service model at night, under remote supervision. Attila Bessenyei, Managing Director of Laurel, will share experiences – with specific data, practical examples, and future plans.

Live tech demos

Participants will get a close-up look at the latest developments, such as the AI-based exit gate, which opens once payment is detected – without scanning a barcode. The latest self-service checkouts, the enhanced Laura POS software, and several solutions that offer tangible advantages for retailers will also be showcased.

eReceipt: turning obligation into opportunity

The upcoming eReceipt requirement and the introduction of new electronic cash registers might at first seem like an extra burden. Laurel, however, will demonstrate how these changes can become a foundation for customer communication – and even a tool for increasing revenue.

Naturally, the conference will also address further issues that fundamentally shape the present and future of retail. Richárd Szabados, State Secretary for SME Development and Technology at the Ministry for National Economy; Dr. Tamás Kozák, Secretary General of the National Trade Association; and Attila Mizsányi and Dr. Sándor Nagy from the National Tax and Customs Administration will contribute with professional presentations.

Market research, workforce, security, generational change

This year’s program will again be enriched by a wide range of expert insights. Zsófia Ungi, head of NielsenIQ Hungary’s retail division, will bring the latest market research, while Blanka Dencső from Profession.hu will present previously unpublished analyses of the retail labor market.

Cybersecurity and AI expert Arthur Keleti will speak about technological risks and opportunities, while trainer Zsuzsanna Horváth (member of Krisztián Steigervald’s consultancy team) will address the changing dynamics of intergenerational communication – especially regarding customer and employee expectations.

This year’s inspirational talk will be delivered by expedition mountaineer Dávid Klein, speaking about courage and perseverance. The stage program will conclude with parting thoughts from István Bessenyei, founder and owner of Laurel, in keeping with tradition.

Registration

The conference will be held on Wednesday, May 28, at the Larus Event Center in Budapest. Participation is free for retailers, but registration is required. Join us – not only to hear about the future of retail, but to experience it firsthand!
