FAO: 2014 will be the year of family farming
The First Workshop of Experts on Family Agriculture was held between 3 and November 4. This meeting was organized by the FAO through Latin America and the Caribbean without Hunger Initiative. The event brought together policy makers from five Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador and Paraguay) and representatives of farmer’s organizations, academics and technicians.
The main objective of the workshop was to discuss and address the different areas of small and medium scale agriculture, and generate consensus and conclusions regarding the potential and the strengthening of Family Farming. During the meeting FAO presented its Cooperation Strategic Framework for family farming for the period 2012-2025, as well as the strategies of social movements to strengthen this sector and the policies developed by various countries in the region.
