World Water Day: Proper water management is particularly important due to climate change
Water is a natural treasure that we must take extra care of and manage it properly – the National Chamber of Agricultural Economics draws attention on the occasion of World Water Day on March 22.

As a result of global climate change and warming, the average temperature in the Carpathian Basin may rise by up to 3.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the 21st century. An even more intense warming of the summer months and an extreme alternation of rainy and non-rainy periods can be expected. In the last ten years, compared to the previous thirty years, the water yields of our country have shown a decreasing trend, in the case of the Tisza, the decline is 30%, and in the case of the Danube, the decline is about 10%. And the lack of surface water consumes our underground water reserves; mitigation of the harmful effects of these processes is of primary economic and social interest.
The global rise in temperature also poses challenges for agricultural water use
The increasingly frequent droughts and floods justify water management that is adaptive, complex and takes into account local characteristics, in which both the state and individual producers have their role. This includes, among other things, the optimization of efficiency, the reduction of losses, the determination of the priorities of uses, the development and operation of appropriate water management systems.
