German shoppers are expected to spend an average of €298 during Black Friday 2025, marking a 7 per cent drop compared to last year. The reduced budget reflects a shift toward more conscious consumption, while 37 per cent cite financial constraints as the main reason.

Despite the lower spending plans, 65 per cent of respondents still intend to participate in the sales event—nearly matching last year’s 67 per cent. Electronics remain the most popular category (84 per cent), followed by clothing (78 per cent) and leisure products (76 per cent), Lebensmittelpraxis reports.

A representative survey conducted by Kantar in August and September 2025 among 2,010 consumers aged 18 to 64 also revealed growing skepticism toward Black Friday. 45 per cent believe the event is no longer appropriate in times of crisis, up from 38 per cent in 2024. Additionally, over two-thirds suspect that retailers raise prices beforehand to create the illusion of larger discounts, and 47 per cent think the offers mainly consist of leftover stock.

Florian Kriegel, price expert at comparison platform Idealo, advises shoppers to prepare ahead thoroughly and not be misled by flashy markdowns.
