Turkey meat imports fell
According to European Commission data, the EU’s (EU27) poultry meat exports increased by almost 1 percent to 520 thousand tonnes between January and March 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The EU’s largest target countries were the United Kingdom and Ghana (a total share of 44 percent of exports). The community’s poultry meat imports increased by 14 percent to 255 thousand tonnes in the first three months of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. Three quarters of the imports came from Brazil, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

According to KSH data, Hungary’s poultry meat exports decreased by 3 percent to 87 thousand tonnes in the first five months of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. Within this, chicken meat exports increased by 8.5 percent to 66 thousand tonnes, while turkey meat decreased by 9 percent to 9 thousand tonnes. The largest target market for poultry meat continued to be Romania. Hungary’s poultry meat imports decreased by 28 percent to 21 thousand tons during the observed period, within which the supply of chicken meat decreased by 10 percent to 20 thousand tons, and that of turkey meat by 45 percent to 1 thousand tons. Most of the poultry meat came from Poland.

According to data from AKI PÁIR, the live weight producer price of slaughter chicken in Hungary increased by 6.6 percent to 441.3 forints/kilogram, and that of slaughter turkey by 6.9 percent to 633.3 forints/kilogram In the first thirty weeks of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The processing sales price of chicken breast fillet was 1972.3 HUF/kilogram (+13.6 percent), chicken breast with bones was 1258.7 HUF/kilogram (+10.8 percent), chicken breast (total) was 1896.0 HUF/kilogram (+11.0 percent), and chicken leg was 905.9 HUF/kilogram (+2.9 percent) in the observed period.
