Wizz Air’s annual pass, which provides unlimited flights, sold out quickly
The Wizz Air “All You Can Fly” annual pass announced on August 13 was completely sold out within 48 hours, Bloomberg reported. 10,000 of the €499 (approximately HUF 195,000) passes were offered, and those wanting to travel snapped them up almost immediately.
A spokesperson for Wizz Air told Bloomberg that they are currently considering the possibility of issuing another pass package. The season tickets sold so far have brought the airline an income of around 5 million euros (nearly HUF 2 billion). The success is particularly important for Wizz Air, as the company recently lowered its profit expectations for this year, which was also helped by this summer’s aviation chaos.
The “All You Can Fly” pass offers unlimited flight bookings throughout the year, but under certain conditions:
- Each trip costs 9.99 euros (almost HUF 4,000) in addition to the price of the pass.
- Tickets can only be booked 72 hours before departure, if there is still room on the flights.
- The booking does not include baggage or seat selection.
- If someone does not use their reserved ticket, they have to pay a penalty.
When the promotion was announced, Wizz Air announced that the following passes will be offered at a higher price of 599 euros.
Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s chief executive, criticized the Wizz Air offer, calling it a marketing scam, saying passengers would struggle to find seats on flights if they could book tickets only three days before departure. Wizz Air, on the other hand, categorically denied this claim.
