Catering in Europe
According to the research of the European Food Service Summit in Zurich, the turnover of the 99 largest players in the European catering market increased by 15.5% to 105.2 billion euros in 2021 – we read in the latest newsletter of VIMOSZ – but this still falls short of 15.4% from the year before the pandemic in 2019.

The two years after the record increase of 7.4% in 2019 dragged the turnover down. However, 77 of the 99 companies showed growth again in 2021, but compared to 2019, the turnover of 72 still falls short of two years ago. The picture is slightly negative considering the figures of the top 10 companies, they account for 62% of the turnover of the top 99 with 65 billion euros, which is a 16.9% increase compared to the previous year and only a 2.9% decrease in 2019 compared to In the ranking, McDonald’s is still in first place with 26% of the total turnover and it has already achieved a 3% increase compared to 2019. Sodexo was second in the ranking, and Yum!, the operator of the KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands, came in third. Two new players entered the top 10, Bertrand, who rose to 9th place, and Amrest, who finished tenth. The biggest increase was achieved by Domino’s Pizza in sixth place with 27.9%, but a 16% increase was achieved by Yum! mainly thanks to its new openings. Of the 99 companies, 42 chains belonging to the quick service category account for 61% of the total turnover. The top 99 account for 25% of the total catering volume in Europe.
