The harvest is nearing its end in Békés County
Average yields for maize and sunflower have been better than expected, but winter wheat and rape growers have closed a very unfavorable year – the secretary of the Békés County Farmers’ Association told MTI on Monday.
Barabás Béla said that due to unfavorable weather conditions, wheat yields were sometimes 20 percent below expectations, and that fusarium contamination is a major problem.
High quality wheat is purchased at 57-58 thousand HUF per tonne, while poorly or moderately contaminated wheat is currently sold at 37-40 thousand HUF. “Good quality wheat is rarely found in Békés,” he said, adding that at such prices farmers would have to make losses. (MTI)
