Vegan or traditional? Lidl offers them at the same price!
Lidl Magyarország has taken another pioneering step to promote sustainable consumption and nutrition. In January the company started to reduce the price of a dozen private label Vemondo vegan food products, offering them at the same low price as their animal-based counterparts. In doing so, the discounter seeks to make plant-based products more accessible and to offer consumers a real choice without price differences.
“Conscious and sustainable consumption can only become widespread if the diet that supports it is affordable and more accessible to all consumers. So far vegan alternatives have typically been more expensive than comparable animal-based products in grocery retail. Lidl wants to change this, so now our reduced-price Vemondo range includes pizza, toast ham, sandwich toppings, organic oat drink, organic oat cream, vegan yogurt, savoury vegan sticks, vegan burgers and vegan lasagne”, said Judit Tőzsér, head of company communication. Lidl launched its own vegan brand, Vemondo, back in 2020, and is continuously increasing the proportion of plant-based products in its assortment. (x)
