NAK organizes a series of professional events for farmers entitled Real animal welfare
The National Chamber of Agriculture is launching a series of events under the title “Real animal welfare”, the aim of which is to provide farmers with knowledge that will help them achieve progress in this field. As the first stop of the series of events, participants can gain new knowledge about the welfare of farm animals during transport. After that, they can get to know the most modern animal welfare developments in practice.
The National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) supports the implementation of animal welfare goals with a number of tools: it makes suggestions regarding detailed regulation, subsidies, and other incentive systems, and it also helps the players in the product field with information transfer, knowledge-enhancing presentations, and publications. NAK is committed to a high level of animal welfare for farm animals and to helping and supporting livestock keepers.
To ensure real animal welfare, it is not enough just to love animals
We need to know their behavior, needs, habits, and illnesses in order to be able to take care of them properly. Their storage and transport conditions must be established in accordance with all of this. At the same time, it is not enough to base only on existing knowledge and rules, we must constantly improve our knowledge regarding the issue of animal welfare. To this end, NAK is launching a series of events entitled “Real animal welfare”, the first stop of which will be on February 29, 2024, when participants of the online event can gain new knowledge about the welfare of farm animals during transport.
EU legislation on the transport of animals goes back almost 50 years
The last significant transformation took place in 2004, almost 20 years ago. On December 7, 2023, the EU Commission presented its proposals for the biggest reform of the EU rules on the welfare of animals during transport. The participants of the online event on February 29 can get a detailed insight into the proposals put forward by the European Commission and their connections with other regulations. The invited industry experts will analyze the implementation possibilities and expected results and consequences of the new regulations. The event will be opened by Balázs Győrffy, President of the National Agrarian Economy, and then Dr. Imre Nemes, President of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) will greet the gathering. The participants of the online conference can then hear a presentation by an invited expert from Nébih on domestic animal welfare regulations and official control, with particular regard to the protection of animals during transport, while an expert from the Ministry of Agriculture will talk about the current and future animal welfare requirements related to the transport of farm animals, as well as the proposal put forward by the EC reports on the official domestic position. After the professional presentations, there will be a round table discussion about the difficulties of meeting the current requirements, as well as how the new rules affect the individual livestock sectors.
As the second stop of the series of events, on March 12, 2024, at the NAK Dunaharaszti Education Center, interested parties will have the opportunity to meet technical companies dealing with the most modern animal welfare developments. The event series is free, but registration is required.
