The leaders of the Czech Chamber of Agriculture, the National Council of the Polish Chamber of Agriculture, the Slovak Chamber of Agriculture and Food Industry, and the Hungarian National Chamber of Agriculture participated in the meeting on July 3-4, and they discussed a number of topics.
The European Commission recently published the draft free trade agreement with Ukraine, which the V4 agricultural chambers objected to, given the economic and food security risks posed by food coming from Ukraine.
Another vital issue is the preparation of decisions on the post-2027 EU budget and the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)
The V4 agricultural chambers call on the Commission to maintain a strong and independent CAP budget and to protect the competitiveness of European farmers and food producers. The chambers reject the European Commission’s publicized plans to significantly reduce EU agricultural subsidies and merge them with other support objectives. This would be a serious blow to European agriculture and every farmer. The participants of the meeting also discussed the experience with the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic, positively assessing the effective and rapid measures taken by Hungary.
The topic was the long-term impact of climate change, especially the actions to be taken due to drought and extreme weather events
The V4 agricultural chambers also issued a joint statement stating that the European Union should also take a more serious role in compensating for drought damage. In their communiqué, the V4 chambers also emphasize that it is essential that the label of foods imitating or replacing foods of animal origin clearly indicates the nature of the product, in order to ensure that consumers are not misled.
