Business breakfast organized by Deloitte and Salesforce
In Deloitte’s latest study on the outlook for the consumer goods (FMCG) sector, published in 2022, the authors analyse the opportunities and challenges of the industry in the light of international experience.
Based on feedback over the past five years, 70% of companies feel increasing pressure from macro and sector-specific trends affecting their business. Wherever they look, the tension is mounting; supply chain disruptions, labour shortages, global conflicts and inflation are each challenging factors on their own, and together they are making the sector’s situation particularly difficult. The biggest challenge, though, is the changing consumer behaviour.
Other cross-sector trends include sustainability, private label competition and, from a macro perspective, the economic slowdown.
In these circumstances, the objective remains the same, but achieving it is increasingly critical: how to achieve profit growth?
Companies leading in profit growth have taken the following actions:
- They have started investments to help the company adapt to changing consumer needs, including direct consumer platforms, product innovation, digital marketing and analytics.
- To take advantage of this opportunity, they are trying to increase market share in a variety of ways, including differentiated pricing and inorganic growth.
- They use creative approaches to transformation and in some cases encourage vertical integration.
- They improve supply chains by increasing data capture and improving transparency.
- They place greater emphasis on meeting ESG* targets, even if this is an ongoing challenge.
*ESG = Environmental, Social and Governance.
In an increasingly competitive environment, FMCG players are also relying more on the latest digital solutions. One such solution with versatile capabilities is the Salesforce Consumer Goods Cloud, which can significantly help FMCG companies.
At Deloitte Hungary’s next business breakfast on 12 May, we will show you how to increase profits while optimising costs.
