Glass and paper are the most recycled

Millions of tonnes of plastic packaging are produced every year, while alternative solutions have different environmental impacts – reveals an expert analysis by POLCZ. According to Eurostat data, the plastic recycling rate in Hungary was only 45% in 2020. In contrast, 85-88% of paper and cardboard in the EU was recycled in the same year.

Most plastics marketed as compostable end up in incinerators or landfills due to the lack of proper infrastructure, where they fail to decompose and may even contribute to increased methane emissions
