The next generation
Junior chefs compete at two professional contests in Hungary: the Hungarian leg of WorldSkills/EuroSkills and the Star of the Profession Festival. Both WorldSkills and EuroSkills international contests are held every second year. Hungary’s participation is coordinated by the Skills Hungary programme of the National Institute of Vocational and Adult Education.
Last year the event was held in Calgary for the representatives of 13 professions under the age of 23. At this year’s selection contest Zsolt Berki, Dávid Herédi and Péter Molnár earned the right to participate in the preparation and one of them will represent Hungary in the final, held on 9-11 December in Lisbon, where the task will be preparing a 3-course menu for 4 persons in 5 hours. Adrienn Petrezselyem, the managing director of MNGSZ (Hungarian Gastronomic National Association) told that the three junior chefs were preparing together with the national and the military teams.
Star of the Profession Festival, held for the 3rd time this year, sets out to raise the social prestige of blue-collar jobs. Representatives of 23 professions compete and the organiser is the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In this year’s semi-final 2,800 youngsters competed – those who perform well become members of the team preparing for WorldSkills/EuroSkills.
It is a good thing that next to the stands of competitors sponsoring companies display their products, and schools and training organisations are also represented.
