USA: retail and hospitality sales increased
Retail and hospitality sales increased in the U.S. in August, likely due to school-related shopping and the payment of a tax after child credit. Surprisingly good data may dampen expectations that economic growth will slow sharply in the third quarter.
The U.S. Department of Commerce said Thursday that the seasonally and calendar-adjusted value of retail sales and hospitality was 618.7 billion USD in August, up 0.7 percent from July. Analysts expected a 0.8 percent decline after a 1.8 percent decline in July. (MTI / Reuters)
