Festive dishes: bacon kuglóf, bacon cheesecake and New Year’s Eve candied sausage rolls
Often, an unusual ingredient or even the way it is served can turn an ordinary dish into a festive one. In such cases, as Christmas approaches, we also consider what we can prepare in advance, what will last, what can be served later, even cold. Now we recommend dishes that meet all the requirements: they don’t have to be left to the last minute, they can be served on the festive table in many ways and are also special, not least because of the crispy bacon.
Bacon kuglóf
The highlight of the festive table can be if the minced meat or steak served as a main course or with a cold dish is baked in a kuglóf mold and covered with bacon slices. The latter not only makes the otherwise not very spectacular fried meatballs beautiful, but also adds an amazing extra flavor, holds it together and makes it easier to remove it from the mold. You can make the flavor even more special by mixing the stewed onion with a little Worcestershire sauce and mustard before adding it to the minced meat, which, in addition to the usual eggs, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper, can also include thyme, rosemary, parmesan and a little sun-dried tomato. Then the mixture can go into the bacon-lined mold, and then fold the ends of the bacon over the filling. Cover the whole thing with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, then remove the mold and, with a firm movement, place it on a baking sheet, and bake the bacon coating for another 10-12 minutes until beautifully crispy. It will look like a beautiful Christmas wreath, which can be sliced nicely after a few minutes of rest.
Bacon Cheesecake
The more daring can up the ante and serve a cheesecake sprinkled with crispy bacon for dessert. The idea is not a bad one, as it has long been known that a little salty flavor brings out the sweetness even more. It has also been proven that bacon goes well with sweet things, such as dried fruits. So it’s time to try it with cheesecake! You can use any well-proven cheesecake recipe to make it. All you have to do is sprinkle the top with chopped fried bacon. If you want to achieve even more intense flavors, add brown sugar or maple syrup to the baking bacon. You can even fry the bacon in the biscuit base, but it is also perfect sprinkled on top of the cheese cream. The unusual pairing creates a great contrast with each other, the crunch of the bacon emphasizing the creaminess of the cheesecake even more. And the view speaks for itself, it’s a real treat, and we get something special from a little fried bacon.
