EU court: Internet merchants do not necessarily have to provide a telephone number for the consumers
Electronic commerce platforms such as Amazon do not always have to provide a telephone number prior to the conclusion of a contract, but there is a communication channel that allows the consumer to contact them quickly and efficiently – the Court of Justice of the European Union announced on Wednesday.
A German consumer interest organization initiated a lawsuit because the Amazon EU trading company, which only sells products on the Internet – according to the organization – does not provide proper contact, although German law obliges the trader to give phone number in all circumstances before entering into any contract.
