Kyiv is ready to limit Ukrainian food exports to the EU
Ukraine is ready to accept trade restrictions with the European Union in order to resolve the political dispute between it and Poland, but at the same time urges the Union to ban the import of Russian grain, Ukrainian Deputy Economy Minister Tarasz Kachska, Ukraine’s trade representative, told the Financial Times in his statement to the British newspaper published on Wednesday.
According to Kaczka, Kiev accepts the new restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural imports, but the EU should also ban the import of Russian agricultural products that still enter the Union via Belarus and the Baltic states.
“During the transition period, this kind of managed approach to trade between Ukraine and the EU is what we all need”
– he said.
“As for wheat, it is not Ukraine that causes problems for Polish farmers, but Russia”
– drew attention to the deputy minister. Russian grain exports to the EU increased by more than 50 percent to 1.5 million tons between 2022 and 2023.
