Budapest’s legendary coffee house has reopened
The coronavirus epidemic dramatically affected the hospitality industry, many restaurants and cafes were forced to close due to mandatory closures and economic difficulties. As a result, the hospitality industry experienced a significant decline in 2020, which also felt its impact in the following years. However, the industry began to revive in 2022, and many iconic places, such as Gundel Étterem and Centrál Kávéház, reopened their doors.
The Centrál Kávéház, which has been serving Budapest and foreign guests since 1887, reopened its doors on April 11, 2022. On the occasion of the presentation of the new menu, Pénzcentrum spoke with one of the restaurant’s managers, Gábor Tóth, who runs the cafe together with his business partner, Gergő Gácsi. Tóth said that the café gradually regained the sympathy of the Budapest regular public and became increasingly popular among foreign tourists as well. Since the reopening, Centrál has been operating as a large coffee house again, open between 9 and 10 a.m.
When creating the menu, the management of the coffee house combined traditional Hungarian dishes and modern bistro style. In addition to classic dishes such as chicken paprikash, goulash and eggs benedict, they also offer progressive, unique dishes. The menu includes a rich breakfast and brunch selection, as well as all-day soups, main dishes and snacks. The cafe’s drink menu has also been reimagined, adding some modern twists to classic cocktails and coffees.
