The abolition of VAT on basic foodstuffs was again put on the table as a proposal
MSZP urges the reduction of the VAT on basic foodstuffs to zero percent. At his online press conference on Friday, Lajos Korózs, the vice-president of MSZP, emphasized that a radical change in tax policy would be necessary.
He said that his party recommends expanding the range of products with a price cap, because the price cap provides real help to pensioners. It is proposed to reduce the VAT on basic foodstuffs to zero percent and to abolish the 4.1 percent special retail tax.
They also advise the authorities to actively monitor price reductions and call for compensation for the losses caused by price caps to convenience stores and retailers.
